Starting Salary-$17.73 Range $17.73-$22.99

Under direct supervision of the Customer Service Coordinator and Lead Custodians to keep the assigned buildings and grounds clean and orderly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promote a welcoming and friendly environment, by being courteous, listening carefully, valuing the customer’s time, providing knowledge and resources and doing everything in one’s power to efficiently and accurately serve the customer.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming, which includes using scrubber machines.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Clean windows, glass, and mirrors with chemical provided.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Polishes furniture and woodwork.
  • Shampoos spots in the carpet.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies manually or with a dolly.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking areas using shovels, snow blowers, or spread snow melting chemicals.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours.
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations tables, chairs, ladders, scaffolding, AV equipment, sound equipment, coffee makers, screens, etc.. to prepare facilities for events.
  • Spray insecticides to prevent insect or rodent infestations.
  • Scrubs drinking fountains.
  • Cleans blinds, ceiling vents, fans, refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, counters, cupboards.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Possess excellent pro-active customer service skills, including friendly and empathy, and expresses interest in serving our guests.
  • Professional impression on our guests as a representative of the City.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in all areas of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of simple hand tools.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and directions.
  • Talk and hear in person and by phone.  
  • See and read instructions, observe conditions of buildings.
  • Possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to use vacuum, buffer, hand tools and other equipment necessary to perform custodial duties.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Will be required to successfully pass a background screen and a pre-employment drug screen. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of high school and one year of janitorial experience; related vocational or trade school training is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Speak/understand English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, kneel, twist, reach, pick, ride, and perform a variety of similar body movements.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs at times.
  • Bend, stand, walk for long periods of time while running cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to wear PPE as required.
