Job Description

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Colorado POST certified applicant, or an individual who is currently POST certified in the state they reside. The court security/court transportation supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of judges, court personnel, and visitors to the courthouse as well as the transportation needs our county has with inmate housed in other counties. As the supervisor, they must provide direction and guidance to the court security team, overseeing their performance and ensuring they are meeting expectations. The incumbent is expected to work a regular shift from Monday through Friday, though some holiday and weekend work may be required.

Primary job duties:

  • Arrange and conduct transportations to and from other facilities for prearranged court hearings.
  • Ensure all reasonable efforts are made to protect the safety of persons in custody while they are being transported for criminal justice proceedings.
  • Develop and implement court security procedures that are in compliance with state and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversee the daily operations of court security personnel, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with visitors, court personnel, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure environment for court proceedings.
  • Ensure that all court security personnel follow proper protocol when handling emergencies, such as medical or security issues.
  • Conduct regular security assessments of the courthouse to identify potential risks or threats.
  • Stay up to date with the latest security technologies and best practices to enhance the security of the courthouse and personnel.
  • Collaborate with court officials, judges, and other stakeholders to develop emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Maintain and report accurate security logs and records for legal and operational purposes.
  • Investigate any security incidents or breaches and provide necessary reports to court officials and law enforcement agencies.
  • Take persons into custody on arrest warrants and makes arrests based on probable cause.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned workstation, uniform, and weapon.
  • Provide basic medical attention in emergencies, including CPR, as required.
  • Maintain office proficiency standards in the use of firearms, defensive tactics, and arrest control techniques.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one years of experience in law enforcement or security field.
  • Colorado POST certificate, or POST certification in another state with the ability to earn a Colorado POST certificate within six months.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations pertaining to court security.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Proficiency in use of security equipment and technology.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Clean criminal record.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
