Wage: $20.44-$27.25/hr.

Location: Delta, CO.

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the City Clerk/Court Administrator and in his/her absence the City Manager, carries out varied administrative duties involved with the operations at Municipal Court. With the assistance of the City Clerk/Court Administrator and with direction from the Municipal Court Judge, performs a wide variety of quasi-administrative work in preparation and participation in municipal court.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Respond to general and specific inquiries from customers regarding ordinance, regulations, policies, and procedures pertinent to area of assignment.
  • Research and respond to inquiries; direct customers to appropriate City divisions/departments.
  • Provide customer service in the areas of municipal court services; process tickets and payments; coordinate court appearances.
  • Maintain scheduling and administrative documentation related to municipal court; schedule conferences and court dockets; prepare various documents including warrants, and minute orders; monitor and track payments scheduled for restitution or fines; document and track court orders.
  • Provide case management for a variety of municipal court functions; coordinate with other staff and outside agencies.;
  • Coordinate video arraignment; assist Municipal Judge in the proceedings of the Court.
  • Prepare and process a wide variety of legal documents and forms issued by the Court including warrants, subpoenas, summons, holds, and other necessary documents; recommend revisions to forms and documents as needed; generate and modify report documents; retrieve various levels of information using assigned software systems.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of the Court Administrator as needed Court proceedings and is the lead Court Clerk.
  • Maintains court statistics and prepares and submits periodic reports.
  • Prepares for jury trials; seals court records as ordered by court; directs payment of fines to Cashier; and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE: performs other duties as assigned.

  • Basic knowledge of general office procedures and methods.
  • Basic knowledge of Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operations.
  • Basic knowledge of municipal court operations. 
  • Working knowledge of rules and procedures for municipal court proceedings.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to Establish and maintain accurate records, logs, and files.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry and typing.
  • Ability to perform sedentary physical work and lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, pinch, grasp, bend and perform a variety of similar body movements.
  • Ability to talk and hear in person and by phone. 
  • Ability to Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to see and read records, reports, mail and other information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials and the public.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license. Will be required to successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to a high school degree
  • College course work in business, public or judicial administration; and two (2) years progressively responsible experience in clerical administration.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

  • Basic math skills.

  • Ability to see and read instructions, read and file legal documents, observing and assisting the public in municipal court
  • Possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to use office equipment, computer, typewriter and Dictaphone.

  • Must be able to work in an office/court atmosphere with many distractions.
  • Must be able to work in public with multi-conversations keeping the ability to concentrate on the tasks at hand.
  • Working schedule/days may vary.
  • Work hours will be 25-29 hours per week depending on Court requirements.
