Job Description

Starpoint provides essential services to two vulnerable populations, children and their families and adults with cognitive and physical challenges. We have provided services and support to individuals, families, and communities in Fremont, Chaffee, and Custer counties since 1977.

Starpoint is looking for a Controller with experience in fund-based accounting, grant management, and Federal funding who is aware of federal requirements, and has single audit experience. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions of the organization including month-end closing, preparing financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant draws, and reporting.

The Controller will support the management team through the timely delivery of financial information including monthly financial statements and analysis and manage the preparation of the annual budget. This role will supervise finance staff including staff development and training, performance reviews, and cross-training.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily accounting and finance operations, including cash management, A/P, payroll, construction, and grant draws,
  • Lead and mentor a small team of Accounting Specialists. Evaluate and develop accounting and internal control processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Manage and guide the general ledger and account structures for accurate and timely reporting outcomes.
  • Meet various reporting requirements to support grant proposals and donor reporting.
  • Facilitate and ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end closes, with appropriately documented reconciliations.
  • Manage the year-end financial statement audit and tax work.
  • Manage the financial reporting system and processes to meet the needs of the management team for each department.
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures are kept current and well-documented.
  • Manage the annual budget process, including distribution, review, and compilation of budget templates.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the accounting software and supporting database.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and local reporting obligations are met.

The Controller position is a full-time, on-site, salaried position.

Requirements: '

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated success as Controller or Chief Financial Officer for at least years.
  • Nonprofit/Healthcare experience required.
  • Bachler’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • CPA with nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in managing all accounting and financial aspects of a non-profit organization.
  • Strong background in financial management, fund/NFP accounting, and government accounting.
  • Demonstrated success-managing staff.
  • Uncompromising integrity and transparency in dealing with employees, our board of directors, external auditors, customers, prospects, and investors.
