About the Position: 
The City of Grand Junction seeks a solution-oriented Construction Inspector to assist in providing quality controls on wide variety of capital projects, including roadway, sidewalks, utilities, parks, trails, and other public infrastructure projects. This position will be responsible for performing field inspections to insure compliance with construction specifications, working with contractors to resolve construction issues, and providing project documentation. About the Engineering and Transportation Division: 
The mission of the Engineering Division is to plan and manage the improvement and expansion of public infrastructure systems to support safety, maintain acceptable levels of service, and accommodate future growth. Engineering is comprised of a wide range of services focused on master planning, surveying, design, right-of-way permitting, inspection, and construction management. The Engineering Division supports multiple departments within the City to provide complete project management capabilities for capital projects involving streets, utilities, facilities, public safety, parks, and trails.

Duties

What You'll Do: 
  • Conduct inspections on construction projects, storm and sewer lines, asphalt and traffic control projects to ensure that all jobs are completed according to City standards, specifications and quality standards.
  • Receive and review new development plans or City projects to ensure understanding and scope of project; check plans for compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Schedule and conduct preconstruction meetings with developers, contractors, material suppliers, planners, engineers, utility companies and other interested parties.
  • Perform testing of materials used in assigned projects.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of inspection work performed.
  • Perform acceptance and warranty walk-throughs upon completion of project.
  • Conduct testing to verify horizontal and vertical alignment of installations.
  • Conduct City-wide street surveys to determine the need for asphalt overlays, concrete needs and other repairs.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed. 

What We're Looking For: 
  • Four (4) years of construction or inspections experience.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license. 
  • Possession of or ability to obtain materials testing certifications.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain  ACI certification.
  • Possession of  or ability to obtain Worksite Traffic Technician certification.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
