POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Construction Carpenter oversees and participates in the construction, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. They provide guidance to carpentry teams on-site, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires leadership skills, advanced carpentry knowledge, and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership:
- Assist the site superintendent in managing and delegating tasks to FWC carpenters and laborers while performing advanced carpentry work themselves?
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements.
- Ensure adherence to project schedules and address potential delays.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other tradespeople to coordinate tasks and solve problems.
Carpentry Work:
- Perform advanced carpentry tasks, including framing of garages, sheds, decks, cabinets, doors, siding, roofing, drywall, and floor installation.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials with precision.
- Install structures such as walls, floors, windows, doors, stairs, and furniture as required by the project.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
Team Supervision:
- Supervise, train, and mentor carpentry team members.
- Assign tasks and ensure efficient use of labor and materials.
- Conduct quality checks on work performed by team members.
- Promote and enforce safety standards, including OSHA compliance, and address safety concerns promptly.
Site Management:
- Monitor and maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure readiness and prevent downtime.
- Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and hours worked.
- Report progress and challenges to project managers.
- Assist in estimating labor and material costs for projects.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of carpentry experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in residential, commercial, or industrial construction.
- Advanced knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks.
- Any additional trade certifications are a plus.
