SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Communications Intern supports the Town of Telluride’s public engagement efforts. This position assists in creating, coordinating, and disseminating Town communications through social media, the Town’s website, and community outreach initiatives. This is a temporary position.

  • Compensation: $22-$25/hr DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social & Digital Media

  • Maintain a daily presence on the Town’s social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Develop a content calendar to ensure timely and relevant posts highlighting Town programs, services, and events
  • Report on metrics surrounding visibility and engagement on Town’s platforms
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on social media to foster positive engagement
  • Create professional and visually appealing graphics for social media posts and digital platforms
  • Design brand-aligned templates for recurring announcements and updates to streamline future communications

Video Production

  • Film and edit short, engaging bilingual videos to inform and educate residents about Town initiatives, meetings, and community events
  • Ensure videos align with the Town’s brand and commitment to equity and inclusion

Website Maintenance

  • Collaborate with Town departments to ensure website content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to residents and visitors
  • Identify outdated or missing information and collaborate with staff to make updates
  • Assist in improving website accessibility and user experience

Community Engagement

  • Explore and implement innovative ways to increase resident participation in Town Council meetings, community gatherings, and opportunities for public feedback
  • Assist in sharing public information during emergency response or crisis communication

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licences/Certifications) : Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Public Relations, or related program; one (1) to two (2) years of experience in social media management, content creation, or audience engagement required; proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing software (e.g., iMovie, Premiere Pro) preferred; experience with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, or similar) preferred; strong writing skills, with the ability to create content tailored for a 3rd-grade reading level.
