Position Summary: 

The CEO is responsible for being a leader in the non-profit sector and for CRC’s overall leadership, management, and strategic planning to execute the organizational mission while upholding its values. This role is responsible for Sector Leadership, Strategic Leadership, Managerial Leadership, Fiscal Leadership, Program Strategy, and Board of Director Relationship. This exempt-full-time-regular position reports to the CRC Board Chairperson and Board. This position directly supervises these roles Chief Officers and the Human Resources role of Employment Practices Advisor and is responsible for the overall supervision and leadership of all staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

Sector Leadership Strengthens and galvanizes change-makers across the nonprofit ecosystem, working together to create a more equitable Colorado.

  • Leads with a clear vision and builds capacity in the nonprofit ecosystem to strengthen Colorado’s communities by engaging nonprofit leaders, donors, government and business leaders.
  • Advocates for practices, policies, and ordinances that benefit the nonprofit sector in a thoughtful and strategic manner.
  • Positions CRC as thought leaders in the nonprofit sector, sharing innovations, best practices, and trainings.
  • Actively seeks sector leadership opportunities for CRC and the CEO.
  • Represents CRC routinely and professionally at local and statewide events through speaking, serving on committees, and presenting information sessions.
  • Listens, communicates, motivates, and builds trust with diverse groups in dispersed geographic areas.
  • Serves as a primary spokesperson to the media and is available for radio, tv interviews.
  • Responds to media questions.
  • Creates and nurtures relationships with many different constituencies and community members to advance CRC’s vision, mission, and goals.
  • Initiates and encourages collaboration and cooperation among other nonprofits, foundations, organizations, government agencies, and community leaders.

Strategic Leadership Builds capacity, creates, and implements strategy, develops necessary skills, and increases the knowledge of the nonprofit ecosystem, staff, and volunteers.

  • Create and implement a strong development plan to create diverse revenue streams and increase unrestricted funds.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships, Alliances, and partnerships within the nonprofit ecosystem, among peers, donors, foundations, and communities.
  • Collaborates with other organizations and displays transparency though regular communication with stakeholders and the public.
  • Champions DEI, internally and externally, and is committed to inclusiveness, accessibility, collaboration, and social justice.
  • Leads the leadership team and plays a central role in the overall development and strategic planning of the organization and communicates with Board Chairperson and Board members.
  • Partner, Collaborate and Communicate with CRC Board Chairperson and Board members.
  • Advances the partnership with Philanthropy Colorado, the Colorado Nonprofit Association, Bright Fox Analytics, and the Business Research Division at the University of Colorado Boulder to complete an update to the Colorado Nonprofit Economic Impact Study.
  • Oversees the strategic planning process for the organization incorporating ideas and perspectives of staff, VISTAs, volunteers, Board members, partners, and collaborators.
  • Oversees the implementation of CRC’s strategic plan and makes adjustment as needed.
  • Oversees the marketing and public relations of the organization.

Fiscal Stability and Leadership Oversees comprehensive development plan, organizational budget and forecasting to ensure financial stability and meet financial targets.

  • Ensure financial stability of the organization.
  • Prepare a financial strategic plan to diversify funding, particularly unrestricted funds, build reserves and create processes and practices for financial transparency.
  • Impactfully communicates a compelling case for support and cultivates an understanding and appreciation of CRC’s work that results in financial support.
  • Analyze current funding streams and identify gaps. In partnership with the Director of Finance and Compliance, review monthly cashflow to ensure financial stability and inform programmatic and financial decisions.
  • Review monthly financial statements and oversee any necessary monthly financial reporting with support from Director of Finance and Compliance.
  • Collaborate with auditors, accountant, Director of Finance and Compliance, CRC staff and board to complete financial audit.
  • Lead contact with Denver Foundation contact for Endowment account
  • . Lead contact with Nonprofit Finance Fund contact for loan.
  • With support from the Director of Finance and Compliance, submit quarterly reports to Nonprofit Finance Fund and oversee any loan repayment.
  • Lead contact with bank(s).
  • Consult, coordinate and work with Board Treasurer on budget approval and financials to ensure fiscal integrity of the organization.
  • Collaborate with program team members to ensure all year end grant reports are complete and submitted to funders.
  • Collaborate with program leadership team to ensure all grant applications/requests are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Identifies consistent training fee schedule across all program areas.

Managerial Leadership Oversees all operational aspects of CRC, ensuring effective use of resources and legal and organizational compliance.

  • Demonstrate commitment to innovative practices, including the use of co-leadership models at CRC.
  • Developing revenue streams, building external and internal relationships, building and executing development plans Implement and evaluate annual action plans based on agreed-upon strategic goals.
  • Create and encourage a collegial and participatory work environment where trust, integrity, inclusivity, transparency, and open communication are valued and supported.
  • Convene regular leadership team meetings.

Program Leadership Directs the development of program strategies and content to support the strengthening of nonprofit effectiveness.

  • Directs the development of program strategies and content to support the strengthening of nonprofit effectiveness. Leads staff to develop creative, cutting-edge programs and services to achieve CRC’s strategic goals.
  • Monitors trends in the nonprofit field to ensure that CRC is responsive to community needs and remains focused on its mission.
  • In conjunction with program and operations directors, implements programmatic oversight and evaluation to improve programs and services to CRC clients.

Board of Director Relationship: Develops capabilities and opportunities for CRC’s Board of Directors to achieve strategic goals.

  • Engage the board to create and fulfill CRC’s vision and mission.
  • In partnership with the board members, work to identify new candidates to recruit for board service with a priority of cultivating a more racially diverse Board.
  • Provide a thorough orientation for new board members.
  • Manage effective and productive communication between staff and the board.
  • Provide information and recommendations to the board for setting or revising CRC’s goals and objectives, operating policies, strategic planning, and program priorities.
  • As an ex-officio member of the committees of the board, attend meetings regularly and keep up to date on progress and issues of each Committee.
  • Schedule and hold regular monthly meetings with the Board Chair and Vice Chair; the Treasurer; and the entire Executive Committee, respectively, and send meeting agendas and supporting documents in advance.
  • Work with the Board Chair and members of the Executive Committee to set the agenda for each board meeting, and work with Business Operations Manager to prepare slide deck to review with the Board Chair the week of each meeting.
  • Schedule and host 6 bimonthly board meetings a year on the 3rd Friday of the month (with some exceptions).
  • Provide regular, monthly written updates via email on CRC’s programs and progress in meeting established goals, including the organizational dashboard and reports drafted by staff, current financial statements, previous meeting minutes, and other pertinent information.

Position Requirements:

  • Colorado residency
  • Provide proof of legal ability to work in the United State of America
  • Provide two references: one from an organization that you worked for and one from someone that worked with or for you
  • Ability to work remotely with reliable Internet service and a reasonable remote workspace to conduct business calls
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to Denver Headquarters and business events

Skills Required:

Preferred Skills:

  • Bi-lingual – Spanish Speaking
  • Technical proficiency with: Salesforce, Constant Contact, Paycom, and QuickBooks

Qualification Requirements – Educations and/or Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Non-Profit Business Sector
  • 10+ years field or related experience
  • 5+ years’ work with diverse communities, with an emphasis on rural communities
  • 10+ years’ experience with management and supervision
  • 10+ years’ experience with finance compliance and budgets
  • 10+ years’ experience with grants and fund development
  • Expertise in employment and financial laws and regulations

Work Location, Schedule, and Environment:

  • Ability to be in the Denver office a minimum of 5 days per calendar month.
  • Hybrid Dever Headquarters and remote
  • Travel throughout Colorado with overnight travel.
  • Flexibility and capacity to work in a fast-paced, fluid, changing work environment.
  • Administrative tasks will require work in a home office or office setting.
  • Working on a computer for multiple hours at a time, sitting or standing
  • Wearing a mask when required by CRC policies.
  • Bending, twisting, and lifting associated with event site setup Indoor/outdoor work with varying temperatures and noise levels at large events

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Salary Range: $120,000 – $135,000

Full-time Regular Benefits: Health Time 2.77 hours per pay period, Personal Time 4.92 hours per Pay Period, 13 CRC Holidays, Long Term Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, opportunity to participate in simple IRA plan with 3% company match, $18.47 bi-weekly reimbursement for internet/phone, and opportunity to elect medical, dental and vision coverage the 1st day of the month following date of hire. CRC pays 50% of medical 100% dental base plan benefits for the employee.
