Position Type: Full-time, 165 days per year

Location: CCHS

Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education. Starting wage $16.68-$18.01 per hour.

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of the Campus Security Officer is to assist the Cañon City School facility and administration in the monitoring of school campuses ensuring student safety and compliance with established policies and rules.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Possess an AA degree or the equivalency of two years of undergraduate college classes preferred

Certification: N/A

Experience: Effective Communication and Social Skills

Licenses/Certificates: Possess and maintain a First Aid and CPR certification; Received, or willing to receive, training in nonviolent crisis intervention; Valid Colorado Driver’s License

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Possess and maintain a First Aid and CPR certification, or be willing to obtain within first year
  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Completed or willing to complete FEMA IS 100, Introduction to Incident Command Systems for Schools within first 60 days of employment
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.

  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and equipment.
  • Monitor students inside the buildings, reviewing passes and student movement throughout school hours.
  • Supervise school grounds, enforce parking policies, and monitor vehicle traffic, exits/entrances and surrounding campus areas.
  • Monitor parking areas, exits/entrances and surrounding campus areas.
  • Operate current district visitor management software.
  • Supervise student movement during morning drop off and at release on campus.
  • Participate in student threat/risk assessments as requested.
  • Counsel students to achieve and maintain expected behavior standards.
  • Submit referrals to address student behavior problems.
  • Be an active member of the Building Safety and Emergency Response Team
  • Assist with school emergency and safety drills
  • Work with the building administration in developing and maintaining the safety and security policies.
  • Liaison with the School Resource Officer in maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the school campus.
  • Monitor Study Hall and students assigned, assist student with school work when applicable
  • Monitor students assigned to In-School Suspension, Lunch Detention and Extended Day if applicable
  • Be willing to work additional hours to provide security at after school and weekend events when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, Equipment Other:

  • Use of and knowledge of the Avigilon security camera system.
  • Understanding of the Standard Response Protocol manuals, procedures.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; feel or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to overhead, waist to floor and overhead to floor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet with occasional increase when working events or with equipment. Inside and outside environments which involve standing and walking throughout the day, with outside supervisory duties in inclement weather. Must be able to work in person. Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize and negotiate.
