Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education: $18.21-$19.27 per hour.

Purpose of the Job:
The Behavior Support Paraprofessional works under the close and ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and building site administrator to provide direct, evidence-based behavioral intervention services to students in special education and general education who are engaging in challenging behaviors. Responsibilities include: implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs designed by the BCBA, training school staff on BIP’s and skill programs, completing fidelity checks on data collection and program implementation as well as supporting the BCBA in the behavior assessment process. The behavior support paraprofessional will support students and staff in a way that fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment. This role requires a strong commitment to ethical practices, data collection, and collaboration with school teams, families, and other professionals.
Education:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Must be willing to complete a 40 hour Registered Behavior Technician Training (Training is approved to be used for salary movement)
Experience:
- Working with children or adolescents with special needs, particularly those with behavioral challenges and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, in a school or clinical setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with and experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent interpersonal relations skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Basic technology competency for job-related functions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
Licenses/Certificates:
- RBT Certification preferred (see above)
Other Criteria:
- Criminal background check required for hire
- First Aid certification preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.

- Student Support:
- Implement individualized skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols as outlined in student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direct supervision of a BCBA.
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction as directed by the BCBA
- Support students in various school settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and during transitions, to promote positive social-emotional and academic growth.
- Utilize de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention intervention techniques in accordance with district-approved methods to ensure student and classroom safety.
- Data Collection and Documentation:
- Accurately collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior and skill acquisition, including frequency, duration, ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) data, and task analysis.
- Maintain thorough and accurate notes and progress monitoring documentation as assigned
- Assist the BCBA with skill acquisition and behavioral assessments as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively and professionally with the BCBA, teachers, special education staff, administrators, and other team members regarding student progress, challenges, and intervention fidelity.
- Collaborate with the school team, to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Participate in team meetings, in-service programs, and professional development sessions as assigned.
- Model appropriate behavioral interventions and provide support to other school staff members in implementing behavior plans.
- Professionalism and Ethics:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrate a patient, understanding, and empathetic attitude towards students with diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Commit to ongoing training and development related to clinical skills, professional ethics, and current best practices in behavior analysis.
- Technology and Data Security:
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard district data by following security protocols
- Report any suspected breaches of data confidentiality or integrity
- Requires movement across the district to support students at different levels as directed by the BCBA

- Proficient with a variety of standard office equipment and specialized equipment as needed based on individual student accommodations

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet with occasional increase when working events or with equipment. Classroom and 1:1 settings as well as possible outside supervisory duties in inclement weather. Must be able to work in person.
Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize and negotiate.
