About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction is seeking two skilled Automotive & Equipment Technicians to join our fleet team: one to support the City of Grand Junction fleet and one to support Grand Valley Transit (GVT) fleet.  These roles are vital to maintaining the safety and reliability of our city vehicles and equipment.  Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor, both positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and functionality of the City’s fleet operations and our community public transportation.

  • Fleet Support Technician: This technician will perform advanced preventive maintenance and repairs on City vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, and machinery powered by diesel, compressed natural gas, and gasoline. You will work on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, ensuring they meet safety standards and comply with all regulations.
  • GVT Technician: This technician will primarily focus on maintaining and repairing the Grand Valley Transit buses. This role will also involve performing comprehensive inspections and complex repairs to ensure these vehicles operate efficiently and safely for public transportation.

About the Fleet Team Division:
The Fleet Services Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 700 pieces of equipment that are utilized to serve our community in the areas of Public Safety, Street Maintenance, Wastewater, Water, Solid Waste, Recycling, Urban Forestry, Parks and Open Space, as well as Public Transportation through a collaborative partnership with Grand Valley Transit. Duties

What You'll Do: 

  • Perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems; install, adjust, maintain, and repair electrical timers, electronic and hydraulic valves, and controllers. 
  • Convert automobiles and other assigned equipment from standard production units to specialized City units as required; install decals and numbers on units; fabricate and install specialized equipment on units such as amplifiers, light bars, shotgun racks, cages, and overhead pipe racks. 
  • Develop and install complex hydraulic systems on vehicles; determine the amount of pressure and flow needed to operate specialized equipment. 
  • Perform wood and metal fabrication on special projects; determine materials needed and basic design; perform gas and electric welding. 
  • Perform thorough diagnostic procedures on a variety of complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems through the use of visual inspections and specialized testing equipment and devices. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position is a safety-sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed. 

What We're Looking For: 

  • Three (3) years of automotive and/or equipment repair experience. 
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; supplemented by specialized training in preventative maintenance and routine repair of gas and diesel-powered equipment or a related field. 
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado Class B commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement within one (1) year of employment. 
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
