Job Type: Seasonal, Hourly

Job Description

To provide event, maintenance and janitorial services for the Arts Culture department facilities and grounds; to perform a variety of technical duties related to the care, maintenance, repair and cleaning of the facilities; order and maintain adequate operating supplies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with facility users, employees, and the general public. Must be available to work a varied schedule including extensive night and weekend work. Assists with special projects as required. In addition to being proficient in all tasks Facility Worker assumes additional supervisory duties.

  • Open and secure facilities before and after events;
  • Clean and maintain the building’s interior and grounds in a safe and orderly condition;
  • Change light bulbs, LED tubes and adjust shades;
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, shampoo, steam clean, strip, wax, polish, buff floors, carpet, tiled areas and furniture;
  • Clean and sanitize the kitchens following each use, including waste and recycling receptacles;
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies.
  • Clean drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc;
  • Change air filters;
  • Wash windows, walls, metal and woodwork;
  • Clean outside areas near building; pick debris; remove unwanted yard waste;
  • Ice and snow removal from sidewalks to provide safe access for pedestrians;
  • Clean desks, tables and countertops; dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures equipment;
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for specified meetings or events; monitor events to ensure equipment is adequate;
  • Inspect and maintain assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition;
  • Identify and report building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities;
  • Ensure that all equipment is stored in a safe and organized location;
  • Ensure that setup of chairs, tables, stages, decorations or other equipment is in accordance with lease requirements and with safety standards and fire and health codes;
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with service contractors and other suppliers of event services;
  • Notify supervising staff when facility or equipment repairs are needed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Arts Culture Supervisor; Admin. Coordinator, or Lead Event Coordinator (EC)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience in meeting and event production-related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities a plus.
  • Minors (between 16-17 years of age adhering to guidelines under the Colorado Youth Employment Opportunity Act (CYEOA) looking for experience in meeting and event production-related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to work with the public, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and work under deadlines;
  • Must be able to operate computer, telephone, fax machine, hand-held radio, calculator and copier.
  • Technically minded/knowledge of event production a plus;
  • Capable of following instructions and work well as part of a team.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

The majority of this position’s duties are performed at the SteamPlant Event Center, Rotary Scout Hut, Riverside Park and Salida Creative District. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and have the visual and physical ability to set-up tables and chairs; Physically labor intensive. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, reaching and/or stretch arms, legs or other parts of body and to physically maneuver over and/or upon varying terrain, surfaces or physical structures. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
