Job Description
Work will generally be performed at the Lake County Sheriff's Office, 505 Harrison Ave, with flexible hours as long as the office is open and available to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for administrative support activities. Prepare forms and reports. Monitors the flow of paperwork and files. Facilitate communication between staff. Coordinates staff meetings. Participates in meetings with various divisions. Performs a variety of administrative tasks for the department and division.

Essential Duties
- Able to properly handle sensitive, protected, and classified documents and information.
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles and practice of budget preparation and administration. Will work with the Sheriff/Undersheriff to prepare a preliminary draft budget including projected income and expenses. Will advise the Sheriff/Undersheriff of the status of the budget through the year.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret, apply, and research Federal, State and Local Policies, laws and regulations pertaining to special districts and ensure district compliance with these laws and regulations.
- The ability to prepare clear and concise reports and to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
- Assists individuals that walk into the office with a variety of Sheriff's Office responsibilities including concealed handgun permit (CHP), request for records, civil process, and general information.
- Maintain agency records.
- Utilize and maintain procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of records.
- Process and maintain records requests.
- Process and maintain Civil Process service.
- Have the ability and demonstrate knowledge of office procedures and equipment including computers and related typing/word processing, maintain office files, order office supplies and other clerical duties, including sending and retrieving of the office mail. Processing of office payroll including all state and federal reports and appropriate tax payments.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, to include staff, other entities, and citizens.
- Coordinate and maintain the monthly income and expenditures which includes, but not limited to, the processing of office deposits, checks, financial reports, reconciling accounts and processing invoices. Essentially accounts payable and receivables.
- Reports to and takes direction from the Sheriff/Undersheriff/Operational Support Director.
- Successfully perform work in a variety of clerical and office duties to assist with the day-to-day operation of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
- Duties are complex in nature and present problems which may require the formulation of Sheriff's Office policy.
- Lack of judgement or prudence in the performance of duties may cause discomfiture to the Sheriff's Office or danger to the citizens.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information relating to Lake County Sheriff's Office.
- Process internal employment paperwork, including but not limited to, new hire paperwork, timecards, benefit information, and other general tasks.
- Oversee and administer the CHP program.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
- College education preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- Must pass a background check and a drug screen.
- Must not have any felony convictions. Committed no felonies, including illegal drug use, in the past three years.
- Must not have any domestic violence offense related convictions or domestic violence related restraining orders in effect.
- Must not have any DUI/DWAI convictions or driver’s license suspensions or revocations within 24 months of the application or more than one DUI/DWAI conviction in a lifetime.
- A history of excessive use of illegal drugs, or other offenses could disqualify an applicant.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Must be a resident of Colorado and possess a Colorado Driver’s License at the time of appointment
