FUNCTION: Responsible to foster a sense of true community while providing an array of activities and programs to satisfy body, mind and spirit. Responsible for every phase of the daily scheduling of group activities for residents, setting the mood or climate of the social activities for the community. Target audiences will be residents, prospective residents and family members.
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Current and unencumbered State Driver’s License with safe driving record.
• Must enjoy working with the elderly and able to accept constructive criticism.
• Public relations capabilities, with some experience, preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Preferred Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience as a social or activities director is desired.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, schedules and implements the activities, for a weekly schedule, using creativity and available resources. Develops and posts calendar of events for the community. Creates schedules for community bus service including local shopping, medical visits, scenic and destination trips.
2. Promotes participation and resident interaction by developing an understanding of the resident’s preferences, individual resident interests and abilities.
3. Prepares and distributes newsletter with input from community groups, residents, employees and guests.
4. Assists in orienting new residents to the community by introducing them to staff members, showing them around the community and making arrangement for them to be included in activities that foster integration.
5. Works with marketing/management to develop community outreach programs for resident involvement (i.e. schools, hospitals, libraries, senior centers, local merchants, etc.).
6. Researches, interviews and hires entertainment for events while remaining within budgetary guidelines. Arranges for religious observances and/or in-house services.

7. Maintains an accurate and up-to-date database that will encompass resident’s preferences for interests and activities as well as a separate database for prospective residents.
8. May be asked to facilitate monthly resident community meetings.
9. Operates the program services department in a cost effective manner adhering to department budgeting guidelines, goals and established parameters.
10. Participates in the hiring of activities staff. Responsible for personnel actions including hiring, termination, promotion, discipline/corrective action, as well as layoff and recall.
11. Schedule and reschedule staff using independent judgment and exercising discretion when creating the schedule and in making determinations regarding granting employee requests for time off or other modifications in work schedules.
12. Acts as a part of the overall management team in regard to the operation of the community.
13. Demonstrates ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to fulfill job requirements.
14. Demonstrates the ability to make independent decisions, solve practical problems that may or may not include a variety of concrete variables. This may require the ability to interpret instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
15. Demonstrates the ability to listen actively and evaluate social situations in an objective, consistent and fair manner. Functions independently with integrity, flexibility and works well with residents, personnel and support agencies.
16. Complies with community policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures, emergency response and safety protocol.
17. Complies with all company policies and procedures related to resident rights; abuse prevention and reporting; and resident confidentiality (HIPPA).
18. Demonstrates knowledge of Employee Handbook and complies with the policies in the Handbook.
19. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
