Now hiring an experienced Activities Coordinator to join our team at Southern Peaks Regional Treatment program located in Canon City, Colorado. In this direct care role, you'll join a team helping at-risk adolescents BUILD BETTER FUTURES.

As an Activities Coordinator, you will develop programs designed to meet the psychosocial needs of our resident students. You will be responsible to assess the students while they're engaged in recreation and activities and document any concerns. Students work with a few different teams (recreation therapy, mental health therapy, academic, etc.), so we all collaborate together for maximum success. Proactive follow-up, organization, creativity, and empathy are skills that will help you thrive in this role. Summary

This is a professional direct service position providing a full range of services directed toward the therapeutic care and rehabilitation of adolescents. Incumbent is responsible for the operation of a specific unit, the supervision of the residents and the supervision and guidance of staff assigned to that unit. You will help maintain a positive work atmosphere by modeling positive behavior and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation and teamwork with co-workers, supervisor, residents, and visitors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities The following statements reflect responsibilities and competencies necessary to describe the core function of this position. ·

  • Assist Treatment Supervisor (TS) in scheduling staff for the unit to ensure that adequate coverage and proper ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Develop a daily shift plan to coordinate and document expectations for the daily activities of residents and staff.
  • Coordinate and conduct resident activities including confrontation, unit meetings, outings, seminars and special events.
  • Assist Treatment Supervisor in performing individual and group counseling and crisis management, conducting staff meetings and participate in conferences for the discussion of behavior, diagnosis, and progress of clients.
  • Use dormitory communication systems to maintain regular communication with supervisor, peers, and subordinate employees. (i.e. Communication Log, e-mail, Shift Plans, Feedback Log, Status Recommendation Sheet, Incident Reports)
  • Ensures that verbal and written updates, including daily unit status reports documenting resident and staff behavior and unusual incidents are provided to the Treatment Supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff in a manner that promotes a team spirit and a sense of cooperation.
  • Communicate effectively with residents by role modeling the principles of dignity and respect.
  • Lead daily shift change meetings to disseminate information to staff on resident status and facility issues.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings as required. 
  • Assist staff member with orientation, training and mentoring. 
  • Complete daily shift tasks including performing random room and dorm checks; ensure that dorm has adequate supplies (i.e. toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning supplies, etc.); supervise resident daily and weekly clean-ups to ensure compliance; write maintenance requests as needed and follow up to ensure completion. ·
  • Work schedules will vary based upon program/facility needs; assist in on-call emergency network. 
  • Certified Med. Tech. Only On an as needed basis will dispense medication to residents as instructed by the Nurse Manager. 
  • Demonstrate leadership and professionalism in performance of job duties by serving as a role model for residents and staff, supporting company mission, goals and objectives and implementing company policies on professional expectations, code of conduct and other practices and procedures. 
  • Assumes TS responsibilities in the absence of the primary TS as directed based upon specific program/facility. 
  • Participate in on-going training as assigned to ensure current certifications are maintained, contracting agency requirements are met, and to continue professional development. · Ensures regulatory compliance with federal, state and local licensing requirements and reporting procedures. 
  • Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care. 
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 60 credit hours from an accredited college Or High School Diploma or equivalent plus one year experience in direct care of at-risk youth preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience preferred.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must pass background check including criminal clearances (State and FBI).
  • Must pass drug test and physical exam.
  • Valid driver's license from employee’s state of residence.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
