Open only to current Colorado Mesa University students or CMU Tech students entering their Junior or Senior year

 

About the Intern Position:

The City of Grand Junction is seeking an intern to support our Accounts Payable and Billing functions within the Finance team. As an intern in this role, you will gain hands-on experience in the world of accounting and finance, with a primary focus on financial record-keeping and reporting. This part-time position offers flexibility, allowing you to work 20 hours per week, typically during the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. About the Finance Team
The City of Grand Junction Finance Department works to ensure financial stability through sound and transparent financial management to serve a healthy and thriving community. You will be part of a team that truly cares about providing the highest level of service to all internal and external customers. The department includes the following functions: Budget, Accounting & Financial Reporting, Sales & Use Tax Administration, Grant Administration, & Municipal Court.

What You'll Do And What We Are Looking For:

  • Verify, balance, and adjust accounting records, including journal entries.
  • Enter, verify, and administer data in assigned system.
  • Support accounts payable.
  • Assist in billing functions.
  • Organize and maintain filing systems.
  • Maintain and update files and records.

 

What We Are Looking For: 

  • Applicants must have successfully completed entry-level accounting and budgeting classes, including Principles of Financial Accounting (ACCT 201) and Principles of Managerial Accounting (ACCT 202).
  • Applicants who have completed Governmental Accounting (ACCT 401) are preferred.
  • Open only to current Colorado Mesa University Tech or Colorado Mesa University students entering their Junior or Senior year.
