Job Type: Hourly

Wage: $19.92-$27.20/hr.

Location: Delta, CO.

Job Description:

Under direct supervision of the Finance Manager, performs moderately complex work in the collection of funds, banking of receipts, and performing customer relation services; most work follows standard procedures which are prescribed by policy or departmental accounting requirements. Assists Utility Billing Accountant on various tasks regarding customers’ accounts and billing processes. Processes grants reports to various agencies for reimbursement of expenditures allowable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receives payments from customers or from drop box.
  • Answers inquiries of the public.
  • Resolves late utility payments with customers.
  • Verifies receipts in accordance with billings.
  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • Follows up on bad checks.
  • Assists with directing the public to the proper staff personnel.
  • Processes grants reports to various agencies for reimbursement of expenditures allowable.

OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Unlocks and locks the front door.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Excellent customer service skills, to include handling difficult customer relation problems.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and fund accounting. 
  • Accurately operate a personal computer, calculator, and other office equipment.
  • Accurately carry out simple mathematical and posting procedures. 
  • Talk and hear in person or by telephone.
  • See and read documents, computer data, and other information. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate and two years of experience in bookkeeping or related office work and dealing with the public.
  • Will be required to successfully pass a background screen and a pre-employment drug screen.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Advanced Math skills.

  • Must be able to concentrate on tasks with many distractions.
  • Perform generally light physical work that includes lifting and carrying 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to perform office tasks.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, twist, reach, bend, grasp, kneel and perform a variety of similar body movements.
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
