Bruce McCandless State Veterans Community Living Center is a State-owned and operated skilled-nursing facility dedicated to serving those who have served us. We strive to provide excellent customer service and to respect and honor resident choices regarding bathing, rising, bedtimes, and other personal decisions. Our philosophy is to provide residents a home where life and love abound.

Shift Information: Temporary Position within 24/7 Veterans Living Community Center. Shift times are subject to change based on the needs of the program.

We are seeking exceptional and caring health care workers to provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. This position will provide basic nursing care to residents of varying mental, physical and health conditions; assists in meeting the activities of daily living, ambulation, range of motion, vital sign assessments, etc. As an employee, you will experience an atmosphere of "culture change" as we operate on a simple principle, "What's in the best interest of the resident?" Duties required may include, but not limited to:

  • Performs Assisted Daily Living (ADL) care to residents assigned, including but not limited to ambulation, ROM, dressing, toileting, bathing, transferring, positioning, lifting, skin care and/or assist with feeding.
  • Cares for resident belongings
  • Maintains room cleanliness
  • Follows proper infection control practices via the use of standard precautions.
  • Communicates with others to ensure proper resident care and work completion.
  • Maintains resident care equipment such as cleaning oxygen concentrators, filling portable oxygen tank, maintain/disinfecting tubs and showers, changing lift batteries etc.
  • Reports issues to charge nurse, including skin conditions, falls, family concerns, and certain behaviors.
  • Completes all documentation necessary for shift in the electronic heath record: including but not limited to, intake sheets, bath sheets, weights, vital signs, and bowel movement.
  • Will occasionally transport residents
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment Appeal Rights Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Substitution: A valid Certified Nurse Aide license (CNA) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, or proof of completion of a board approved CNA program, will substitute for high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience assisting residents with their Assisted Daily Living (ADL) care in a long-term care setting
  • Experience in resident transfers
  • Experience in resident ambulation
  • Experience recording intake and output measurements
  • Experience in assisting residents during meals

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
  • Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • A Tuberculosis Test (TB) will be required upon hire.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
  • Effective September 20, 2021, this position will require documented proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. New employees will be required to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination within thirty (30) business days of hire.

  • On or after October 31, 2021, each facility shall ensure all newly hired employees, direct contractors, or support staff members are fully vaccinated at the time of hire, or receive their first dose of a two-dose protocol, or a single-dose vaccination, prior to providing any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its clients.
