Police Officer/ School Resource Officer

Public Works Equipment Operator/Laborer

Salary and Benefits: The City of Florence Public Works Department is seeking a new Equipment Operator. The hourly rate ranges from $15.12-$17.02/hour, DOE . Full-time benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, and supplemental insurance.

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works/ Street Foreman the position performs a variety of skilled work related to the operation and maintenance of medium to heavy-sized equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, graders, rollers, mowers, asphalt patching machines etc. And semi-skilled tasks related to the repair and maintenance of water meters and pits, service lines, alleys, parks, and other public areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Public Works/ Street Foreman

  • Operates the snow plow to clear and maintain the streets in the winter
  • Operates the backhoe to uncover water lines, load trucks, etc.
  • Operates utility tractor, rotary mowers, etc., to maintain roadside and recreation areas
  • Operates street grader and loader in street maintenance and repair
  • Participates in minor maintenance functions such as lubrication, oil changes, and safety checks
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned
  • Performs a variety of manual tasks using small tools, shovels, rakes in the general maintenance of streets, alleys and public right of ways
  • Inspects and repairs water meters
  • Maintains inventory of meters, meter pits, pipe, valves, couplings, and other materials necessary for the repair , maintenance and installation of water services
  • Maintains and operates all tools and equipment necessary for the maintenance, repair and installation of service lines and meter pits
  • Performs all ¾-2” water taps on city main lines for new water services
  • Mows and trims grass and weeds around public areas and right of ways
  • Digs and fills all holes
  • Loads and unloads dirt, asphalt or other materials into or from trucks
  • Repairs and patches holes in asphalt surfaces
  • Shovels snow, cleans drains, and ditches

Pool Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates all pool staff (does not train life guards/issue lifeguard certification)

  • Supervises pool staff including lifeguards, cashiers, concessions, and swim instructors

  • Directs the Learn to Swim program including registration, assigning instructors and aides, provides class lists, prepares American Red Cross cards, and submits all required forms to the Red Cross

  • Ensures that all pool staff meet or exceed acceptable Red Cross standards for relevant positions

  • Schedules pool staff ensuring that all programs are staffed and supervised 

  • Collects all monies for the pool, submits daily cash reports and accurately prepares bank bag

  • Tests chemical levels and adjusts pool chemicals as needed, monitors water temperature, pumps, and water heater, cleans gutters, conducts backwashing

  • Supervises cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms and immediate surroundings

  • Maintains inventory records of pool supplies and concessions and places orders in accordance with City purchasing policies

  • Ensures that all pool staff adhere to all pool and safety policies

  • Maintains good public relations with staff, program participants and the community

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the City Manager or City Clerk

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Minimum on 1-year supervisory experience

  • Must be 21 years of age

  • Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) desirable

Pool Cashier

  • Calculates, receives and processes admission fees from patrons and provides change, and counts patrons for attendance information. 

  • Answers the telephone and responds to patron questions Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with customers

  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations for the pool
  • Responds to public inquiries for general information about the Pool, and re-directs as necessary.

Lifeguard

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Pool Manager, this position maintains order and prevents dangerous and life-threatening behavior in and around the swimming pool. This position ensures safety and the well-being of the patrons of the municipal pool. American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety certification is required. 

Salary and Benefits: The City of Florence is seeking part-time/seasonal lifeguards. The hourly rate ranges from $14.42-$14.65/hour, DOE, DOQ. WSI Certification compensation is available.

Fulltime Temporary Water Treatment Plant Laborer

Salary and Benefits: Starting wage $14.42 to $15.29 per hour DOQ, and DOE.

Job Description:

           Under the direct supervision of the Regional Water Superintendent and/or Assistant Water Superintendent, performs semi-skilled tasks related to water plant operation and general labor skills in water treatment plant and system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties:

  1. Assist with the installation, repair and maintenance of the water treatment plant, pump stations, head gates and reservoir equipment

  2. Assist in yard maintenance around all treatment plants, pump stations, head gates, and reservoirs

  3. Performs water department general labor and equipment maintenance as required; work involves, but is not limited to: weed/algae control at reservoirs, pump stations, settling ponds, water treatment plant sites, storage tank sites, inlet structures and diversion ponds

  4. Performs water department Janitorial duties and facility maintenance as required; work involves, but not limited to: upkeep and cleaning of water treatment plant sites, storage tank sites, pump stations and tools/equipment storage areas

  5. Perform other duties as requested

Responsibilities:

  1. Directly responsible to the Regional Water Superintendent, Assistant Water Superintendent and Senior Water Treatment Plant Operators

  2. Responsible to ensure that all duty items listed previously are taken care of properly and efficiently

  3. Responsible for completing all tasks and for supplying supervisor with current information

  4. Responsible for co-operating with supervisor and co-workers with the overall benefit of the City as primary focus

  5. Responsible for knowing safety rules and regulations regarding the proper use of tools and equipment

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the City’s water treatment plants, pump stations, head gates, reservoirs

  2. Knowledge of water department rules, regulations and safety procedures

  3. Ability to perform routine and heavy manual labor under adverse conditions

  4. Ability to plan and organize maintenance work

  5. Ability to work effectively with supervisor, fellow employees and the general public

  6. Ability to operate general maintenance equipment and work with a variety of tools

  7. Ability to work with little to no supervision

  8. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license

Material and Equipment Directly Used:

  1. All equipment, tools and material listed on inventory sheets

  2. Heavy equipment including, but not limited backhoe, front-end loader, and compaction equipment

  3. All equipment and materials directly related to janitorial and groundskeeping duties; which includes but is not limited to: Lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, brooms, mops and rags

Working Environment:

  1. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, temperature changes, wetness due to non-weather related conditions

  2. Noise levels that may cause distraction or hearing loss

  3. Vibrations that may cause stress to the body

  4. Atmosphere: fumes, odors, dust, limited ventilation

  5. Hazards: proximity to moving, mechanical parts; exposure to electrical shock; exposure to hazardous chemicals

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED

Physical Demands:

          Medium work range: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 20 pounds frequently, or up 10 pounds constantly. Heavy work range:  exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 50 pounds frequently, or up to 20 pounds constantly.  Continual standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, balancing, handling, grasping required. Environmental conditions may include exposure to extreme weather conditions, temperature changes, wetness due to non-weather-related conditions, noise level that may cause distraction or hearing loss, fumes, odors, dust, limited ventilation, proximity to moving, mechanical parts; exposure to electrical shock; exposure to hazardous chemicals.
