GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for cleaning the City facilities, including the Hot Springs Aquatic Center nightly, including the locker rooms/changing rooms, bathrooms, soaking pools and the main section of the facility in order to ensure that facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. Additional maintenance may include other parts of the Aquatic Center, and other facilities as needed. 8 - 24 hours available per week

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Facility Supervisor . This position does not supervise the work of others. Periodically works with community service workers on specific projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Custodian is responsible for all aspects of keeping the building in clean, sanitary order for the enjoyment of our guests to the facilities.

● Clean bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, etc.), locker rooms/changing rooms and other areas of the pool on a nightly basis

● Maintain a proper inventory of cleaning products and request additional product be ordered in a timely fashion

● Continuously watch for ways to streamline the cleaning processes and make suggestions for how to better the cleanliness of the facility

● Troubleshoot plumbing or mechanical problems and advise Supervisor so they can be dealt with proactively

● Handle special maintenance projects including cleaning the pool deck, vacuuming the bottom of the pool, cleaning drains, etc.

● Assist in the regularly scheduled closing of the pool for maintenance

● Position requires a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holiday work

● Assist the Facility Supervisor on special projects as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to carry out duties while unsupervised, but also able to take direction
  • Possess an eye for detail and understand the need to keep a large public facility clean
  • Possess physical ability to accomplish tasks assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of high school level classes. Limited work experience is required; however, prior experience cleaning a public facility is preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, have a willingness to use strong cleaning products, be able to work in heat, humidity, noise, heights and in or around water. The employee may be exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration; is occasionally expected to work in high, and or precarious places. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
