Location: Canon City, CO.

Job Description

Skyline Vision Clinic is seeking an Optometric Assistant, Medical Assistant or the right person who is interested in helping us with our mission to provide high-quality health care in a safe, convenient, and comfortable environment. The Optometric Technician or Medical Assistant will perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the provider to allow for a proper professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions. WILL TRAIN!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, OSHA Rules and Regulations, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Fields patient phone calls promptly and in a professional manner.
  • Assists providers and other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Prepares patient for scheduled procedures.
  • Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications and ensure accuracy and proper documentation in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline as determined by the clinic manager.
  • Assist with patient pre-op and post-op counseling, procedure set up, and performing in office procedures.
  • Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain and clean all equipment/ instruments.
  • Arranges for provider ordered diagnostics or therapeutic services.
  • Ensures cleanliness, adequate stock of supplies and functioning equipment in examination rooms.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and tools.
  • Completes shift opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists all providers and other clinical staff as needed and assigned.
  • Completes other tasks/duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer and typing proficiency.
  • Displays strong verbal/written communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to effectively organize resources, establish priorities, and perform multiple tasks.
  • Professionalism and ability to be discreet with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical equipment, HIPAA compliance, and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to arrive at work on a timely basis when scheduled (at least 15 minutes prior to seeing patients) and to work a varied schedule.

This role can involve standing or sitting for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, and using hands and fingers to handle and file papers or operate assigned equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may also have to lift 10 to 25 lbs. unassisted.
