Position Title: Special Education Paraprofessional
Job Summary
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students with disabilities to help them achieve their educational goals. This role involves working closely with teachers and staff to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, including attending to personal care needs.
- Ability to supervise and support students with a variety of special needs in different learning environments.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of diverse learning needs and the ability to implement appropriate strategies and supports.
- Willingness to be trained in nonviolent crisis intervention and safe physical restraint procedures.
- Must successfully complete all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) under the direction of the teacher.
- Support students in regular education classrooms, special education settings, and independent learning environments.
- Provide direct supervision of students throughout the school day, including during transitions, lunch, and recess.
- Assist with personal care needs, which may include feeding, toileting, and mobility support.
- Physically assist, lift, or transfer students when necessary, using safe techniques.
- Maintain accurate records and complete reports as directed by teachers or administration.
- Follow all district policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
- Schedule: 150 workdays per year, 7.5 hours per day, 4-day school week.
- Salary: Per Classified Salary Schedule.
- Benefits: Health insurance per Classified Handbook, PERA and Medicare contributions, and leave benefits according to the Classified Handbook.
