Job Description

Job Type: Full time, Salaried

Wage: $85,000-$110,000/yr.

Location: Penrose, CO.

Job Summary

The Controller oversees the day-to-day accounting functions of the company and is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of the financial performance of the company. Duties include leading the finance team, strategically managing cash flows, creating and measuring against budgets in accordance with company goals, ensuring tax and corporate compliance, coordinating with external financial and tax accountants, and monitoring internal controls.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions.
  • Evaluate internal controls for improvement.
  • Maintain and enforce documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards and best practices.
  • Forecast and monitor cash flows into and out of business.
  • Oversee and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Manage general ledger including reviewing all journal entries and approving account reconciliations.
  • Review bank account and credit card reconciliations.
  • Perform and oversee timely completion of month end close procedures.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analyses for management and owners.
  • Review and investigate budget to actual variances and explanations.
  • Lead the production of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Coordinate with external financial and compliance auditors and tax preparation accountants.
  • Ensure compliance with registration, payroll tax, and sales tax reporting requirements in various states.
  • Review and approve sales tax filings.
  • Monitor debt levels and comply with loan covenants.
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff.
  • Work with team to streamline and improve accounting processes.
  • Prepare financial presentations for owners and advisory board.

Supervisory Responsibility Supervises accounting and finance staff

Work Environment Typical office environment Must be able to work in both an office environment and a warehouse environment Noise level moderate (hearing protection required in some areas)

Physical Demands Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Must be able to quickly traverse manufacturing areas.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Travel Travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 5+ years’ experience in a managerial accounting position
  • Proficiency with accounting software required
  • Strong understanding of tax codes and laws

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Manufacturing and cost accounting experience
  • Use of Glovia or other ERP systems
  • CPA or public accounting experience
  • Proficient in Excel
